Hudson Valley August Events and Activities
August in Hudson Valley features a number of excellent events for you to enjoy. The big one is, of course, the Dutchess County Fair, but plenty of other great events occur during August. If you need information on August events in our area, feel free to give us a call at your convenience.

Dutchess County Fair
  • Location: 6636 Route 9, Rhinebeck, NY
  • Distance from us: 30.4 miles
  • When: August 23-28

The Dutchess County Fair is a truly family-friendly, six-day traditional county fair. The fair takes place in Rhinebeck, New York, and is the state's second largest county fair. Based on past years, you can expect over 500,000 to attend. You'll need to check the fairground's website for specific events in 2022. Typically, the fair will have numerous farm animals, including goats, llamas, sheep, and cattle. There will also be fun activities, such as the State Police Dive Tank and Rosaire's Racing Pigs. A variety of agricultural and horticultural exhibits will also be part of the Dutchess County Fair.
Jazz in the Valley
  • Location: Waryas Park Promenade, Poughkeepsie, NY
  • Distance from us: 17.5 miles
  • When: August 21, 12:00 p.m until 6:00 p.m.

Enjoy fantastic jazz music along the banks of the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie, New York. This is a family-friendly event featuring numerous well-known jazz artists, including Buster Williams, Joaquin Pozo, and Regina Carter. This year's jazz festival is dedicated to the late Charles Mingus. The festival takes place at scenic Waryas Park. Seating is flexible. You can choose from chair seating under a tent or lawn seating, where you supply you own chair or blanket to sit on. If you plan to attend Jazz in the Valley, you can save money by purchasing your tickets by August 20.
Morning Light Sunrise at Innisfree Garden

Innisfree Garden, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is considered one of the world's premier gardens. It has a variety of landscape features arranged according to Chinese landscape designs. On August 13, the garden will open an hour before sunrise, so visitors can enjoy a morning golden hour (first hour before sunrise) in Innisfree Garden. It's a great opportunity for photographers and artists to capture the garden under optimal lighting conditions. Of course, you can stay afterwards and explore the Innisfree Garden during normal hours.
Millbrook Vineyards Wine Run

  • When: August 28, 11:00 a.m.

Interested in running or walking a 5K through a vineyard? The Millbrook Vineyards Wine Run takes place August 28th at Millbrook Vineyards and Winery. Like you might expect, this is a beautiful location for a run. (And, if you'd rather not participate, you can still stop by and enjoy great wine.) The run starts and ends at the winery. The race course is primarily over grass, not asphalt. A pour of wine is included after the race.
Putnam County Wine and Food Fest
  • Location: 61 Fair St, Cold Spring, NY 10516

The Putnam County Wine and Food Fest, at Mayor's Park in Cold Spring, New York, is a little out of the way, but it's definitely worth the trip. You'l get to sample a variety of wines and ciders and enjoy plenty of great food. The event also features live music, unique exhibits, and lots of arts and crafts. This is an enjoyable event for the whole family. Note that the Putnam County Wine and Food Fest is held outdoors, and you'll probably want to bring a blanket or folding chair to sit on.
